Software development stage: stable
BernArticle is a versatile set of content types which can have individual layouts for each page. It is based on Archetypes and has been developed and successfully deployed in numerous plone projects for more than one year.

BernArticle brings new content types and utilities to the Plone CMS. Web pages (i.e. articles) are composed of article blocks which can contain text, images, files, and so on. Each block can have its own layout which can be chosen from a set of registered layout views. The list of registered views can be customized and extended.

BernArticle is targeted at web designers and authors who have to create sophisticated web presences with Plone. It was originally developed for the web presence of the city of Berne (capital of Switzerland; www.bern.ch). Since then it has been continually extended and refactored; the offered flexibility of layouting web articles which contain text and graphics has been appreciated by many authors in the past.

Main features

  • BernArticle allows for very flexible content creation as it is composed of one or more individual content blocks.
  • BernArticle is a folderish content type, useful for structuring and editing web content and can be used as the only object you need for setting up a website.

Other (normal) folder types are not needed when using BernArticle.

  • Each of these content blocks can have its own layout and can be edited individually.
  • New custom content block types can easily be defined as new Archteypes.
  • New block layouts can easily be created using Zope page templates.
  • A BernArticle can automatically show summaries of contained BernArticles (subarticles).
