Plone Instant Messenger consists of an instant messenger portlet with a list of online users, and users status (on/offline mail/no mail). Status changes are updating without re load of the site. A Click on a users name opens a popup where you can send and receive messages. If the user has the popup open while getting a message, it wi ll also appear instantly. With "Plone Instant Messenger" an instant messaging functionality can easily be added to existing Plone sites. Members then are able to see who is online, and send messages among each other. The portlet uses XML together with javascript HTTP-requests to update itself without reloading the whole page. This is the first release candidate which is already in a semi-productive state. Performance is still an issue. (Therefore not recommended for sites with > 10 active users at a time.)
